Samsung Smartphones Offer Better Download Speed Comparing to Apple and Huawei – OpenSignal

TechInAfrica – The recent report by an analytics firm, OpenSignal, shows that Samsung smartphones have better performance at download speeds, leaving its competitors such as Apple and Huawei behind. The report was titled: How the Smartphone Affects Mobile Network Experience.

The report took more than 23 million smartphones from Samsung, Apple, and Huawei. The study took 90 days to finish, starting from April 1 to June 30, 2019. There were about 117 billion measurements performed in this study.

The study was conducted across 40 different countries, resulting in Samsung was leading in download speeds in 35% of the countries. In the second place was Apple with download speeds in 17.5% of the countries. The rest of 48% of the countries showed that none of these smartphone brands were faster. However, Huawei was able to be the join-fastest in seven countries.

In the top-tier users’ category, Samsung devices lead in download speeds of up to 26.6Mbps, while Apple and Huawei devices followed closely with 25.1Mbps and 24.4Mbps. In the mid-tier users’ category, Apple devices lead in download speeds while in the low-tier range category, Huawei leads.

In the United States, Samsung devices’ download speeds is 8.2Mbps faster than Apple devices. Meanwhile, in India, Samsung is also leading as the fastest download speed compared to the two competitors. It was followed by Huawei with 0.6Mpbs slower than Samsung and Apple with a minute difference.

OpenSignal explains that slower download speed in some of the regions was due to a weak smartphone market, supported by the market analysis in Brazil, Costa Rica, and Taiwan in which Apple is the top brand and people used pricey smartphones.

The OpenSignal’s report also noted that Apple has claimed that it has some of its high-tier devices: iPhone XS and XS Max. However, these two high-tier’s Apple devices only make 14% of the high-tier in the market.
