San Francisco’s Chipper Cash Expands to Nigeria

Share

TechInAfrica – Chipper Cash, the first platform of its kind to offer instant cross-border mobile money transfers in Africa, offers free in-country P2P transactions without any demanding restrictions. The company, originally based in San Francisco, has offices in Ghana and Kenya and is now expanding towards Nigeria—deemed naturally as the continent’s most populous nation. More particularly in Lagos, the company will be managed regionally by Abiodun Animashaun—one of the co-founders of Gokada (you may have seen our story about the latest achievement of the ride-hailing startup).

Since its initial release in October 2018, the company has come a long way in tackling e-commerce problems within Africa; undoubtedly joining the realm of old and new fintech startups, building a more sustainable technology scene in the fields of digital finance.

With over 70,000 active users, the platform has also processed over 250,000 (and counting) financial transactions across all aspects. What makes Chipper Cash so interesting is that it offers no fee, seamless P2P cross-border money payment and transfer services.

The expansion towards Nigeria was based on the idea of the country being the most populated country in Africa—which, in return, would lead to a bigger economy system that most likely will manifest Chipper Cash’s services. Additionally, Nigeria’s fintech scene was also deemed as one of the most advanced in Africa; rivaling with Kenya and South Africa.

Serunjogi, Chipper Cash’s one of two co-founders, also spoke:

I think for any company doing fintech across borders, that is looking to be successful in Africa, it’s imperative that you have a presence in Nigeria.

On March 18th, 2019, one of the users professed their review on the app: “great app to send and receive money across a number of countries, highly recommended as a money transfer alternative.”

Furthermore, users can connect multiple money accounts to their Chipper Cash wallet for easier accessibility. The platform also offers the availability to transfer money across one of your account to another—or to someone else to that extent.
