Shoprite has launched a virtual mobile network operator called K’nect mobile. The new service will go live in April.
Shoprite points out K’nect’s key selling point as its simplicity. The service offers flat call and data rates with no complicated tiers. Knect piggybacks off Cell C’s network while in turn roaming through MTN’s network.
In addition, data bundles, airtime, and rewards will expire after 2 months, a deviation from the standard 30 days. K’nect mobile will also offer 100MB worth of free data for 3 months. According to the group, no other mobile service operator offers such competitive rates.
- K’nect to K’nect calls – 50c per minute
- Calls to other networks – 99c per minute
- 15c per MB (up to 1GB)
Shoprite Xtra members will reap:
- 10% free recharge
- 10% Xtra on Xtra Savings cardholders
- 5% Xtra when recharging their Money Market accounts
- Double airtime rewards
Among the rewards offered by Shoprite is early access to Computicket events, 100 MB’s worth for three months, and in-store RICA and activation.
