Siemens Healthineers and Wingcopter Partner to Introduce Drone Tech to African Healthcare Services.

To provide a solution to faster healthcare services, Siemens Healthineers, a pioneer healthcare technology, has decided to work with a German drone manufacturer and service provider Wingcopter. The duo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  to develop a drone delivery solution that could transport laboratory diagnostic materials and other medical supplies all over Africa.

Siemens Healthineers and Wingcoper Partnership focus on establishing a transactional delivery system that transports blood samples, pharmaceuticals, and Vaccines, improving access to sample analysis and enabling faster treatment for rural communities. The solution provided will support the latest digital technology and make it easier to accurately track and report results directly to patients. 

The managing director of Siemens Healthineers Middle East, Southern and Eastern Africa, Ole Maloy talked about the company’s commitment and efforts in making sure individuals could access care by providing them with healthcare infrastructures that are affordable to them. 

The delivery drones are built with essential elements that allow them to travel 75 kilometers and also withstand temperatures without being affected. However, this healthcare solution provided does not address health issues alone but will also help to reduce carbon emissions, curb road accidents and contribute to capacity in drone operations. 

 Wingcopter plans to seize this opportunity to expand the drone industry by providing training and upskilling for local individuals, thereby creating a form of employment for them. In the beginning, the company has already been achieved in Malawi where operations are managed by local teams, primarily consisting of women. 

Information concerning the deployment of the drone-based lab will be disseminated as soon as it kicks off.
