TechInAfrica – South African advisory firm based in Cape Town, HAVAIC, has made an investment in Kenyan virtual postbox startup, MPost in a pre-Series A round, which was concluded earlier this year.
MPost was founded in 2016 by Abdulaziz Omar and Twahir Mohamed. The firm offers innovative, simple, and affordable solution that uses consumer’s phone numbers to create internationally accepted postal addresses, virtual Post Office boxes, and real-time phone notifications for its customers.
Its innovative system in Kenya has been rolled out in collaboration with the Kenyan’s government’s postal services, Posta. The company said that the solution will be expanded to a neighboring country, Uganda, soon.
The startup company has been partnered with DEMO Africa, Microsoft, Kenya’s Ministry of ICT, UPU, and participated at the recent Startup World Cup as Africa’s representative in San Francisco, California, USA.
“As a seasoned investment and advisory firm, HAVAIC will undoubtedly bolster Mpost’s growth and impact in the region. This is a vote of confidence in our product and indeed our vision as a company,” said MPost’s CEO, Abdulaziz (Aziz) Omar about HAVAIC’s investment in his startup.
Rob Heath from HAVAIC, commented: “After spending time with Aziz and Twahir in Nairobi and seeing the solution in action, it’s clear that this is not just a technology and commercial product.”
“MPost makes a real impact on people’s daily lives, and as an investor, it’s rewarding when we can tie these two elements together. That being said, this is a great example of African problems producing global solutions, one of the cornerstones of our investment thesis at HAVAIC,” Heath concluded.
