Startupbootcamp Afritech has announced 10 tech startups that will participate at the inaugural ASIP Accelerator. The corporate-backed accelerator programme arrived at the final ten startups after combing through 2229 applications in a rigorous 2-day selection process involving corporate stakeholders, investors, and other industry experts.
Telecom Group is the main sponsor of the ASIP programme, alongside AWS and Google Cloud Platform. The continent’s next generation of early-stage startups in InsureTech, eCommerce, FinTech, CleanTech, AgriTech, and Digital Health is on focus. Startups participating will benefit from market access through Telecel’s mobile services.
Moh Damush, CEO and Co-founder of Telecel Group expressed a thrill at the “quality of the startups that participated in the final selection”.
Eleanor Azar, Telecel Group’s Executive Deputy and ASIP Director said, “We are looking forward to working with the top 10″ while encouraging those who did not make it to apply after 9 months for the next cohort.
The startups joining the 2021 ASIP programme
Nigeria – AGS Tribe, a youth capacity building platform, Ustacky an online learning platform offering micro-degrees and courses on tech and programming, Agrodata an IoT-powered iSmarthives for bees.NucleusIS health insurance value chain enhancement platform, and Worldbay Technologies, monthly food affordability subscription service.
Cameroon’s Agrix that uses AI and image recognition in crop disease detection, Dawa Health, from Zambia targeting expectant mothers, Ghana’s buy now, pay later platform Motito, Zimbabwe’s credit advance financier tool targeting informal traders Thumeza and Weza Ventures an underlying creditworthiness platform.
The 10 startups taking part in the program will receive awards over US$750,000 including cash and credit gifts from AWS, Telecel Group, GoogleCloud Services, and others.
