Ugandan First Lady Urges Investors to Set up Support Skill Training Program

The Ugandan First Lady Hon. Janet Kataha  Museveni called upon investors in the Education Sector to put much emphasis on developing skill training program to empower the country’s youths. She is also the Minister of Education and Sports in the country. The investment in the education sector is spearheaded by the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology from Malaysia. Vice President Dato Gail Phung is the group leader. The two countries partnered with an aim of adding value to the industrial skills in Uganda.

According to the First Lady, other institutions are looking forward to borrowing a leaf from Malaysia’s training skills success. The First Lady met with the Malaysian group investors in the education sector on 13th April 2018. The meeting discussed ways of coming up with the best skill training programs that can be implemented in Uganda. The meeting took place at State House in Entebbe. The Limkokwing University of Technology showed their interest in developing a model Tertiary Education center for empowering Ugandan youths. The center will be located at Namataba Technical Institute in Mukono district.

Some of the main programs to be offered in the institution are construction, fashion, and design. It will also offer training in hospitality, media broadcasting engineering, and data programming. There will be also entrepreneurship, creative media, and architecture technology among others. According to the Ministry of Education, the institute will undergo renovation and up skill undertaking by July 2018. Thereafter the enrolment of trainees will kick-start in November 2018.  The Ministry of education technical staff will supervise the implementation and uptake of the program. According to Phung, it is possible to develop an international university in Uganda. The university will major in skill training programs. The university will also be able to attract training from other 43 countries in Africa.
