Vodacom DRC, the pan-African telecommunications giant, has partnered with Mondia, an innovation-driven mobile telecommunications company, to rollout Mum and baby maternal services across health centers in the DRC.

Mum and baby is a cost-free mobile health intervention service offering Vodacom’s DRC subscribers neonatal, maternal, and child health information designed to encourage the best health practices among pregnant mothers, women, and their caregivers. Mum and baby offer tailored content in the local language that includes videos, articles, and information shared via SMS.

Group CEO of Mondia, Dr. Amadeo Rahmann, pointed out the role played by Mondia, which leverages its extensive networks and expertise in content production to the benefit of Mum and Baby.

Mondia believes the future enhancements by Mum and Baby across the DRC will provide interactive tools that include a due date calculator, medication safety information, medication reminder, and additional health tools and services. Mondia also offers a french service.

Mum & Baby services guarantee positive socio-economic benefits in the areas it operates.  A recent KPMG survey shows overwhelming support for the initiative. Mum and Baby were first rolled out in South Africa back in 2017. As of August 2018, it has over 1.2 million registered people. The next country it is expected to rollout is Lesotho – sometime this year.
