TechInAfrica – Vodacom Business launched IoT Barometer 2019 and revealed its findings. The findings show a big picture of how non-users of IoT business have left behind rivals for the past few years.
Besides revealing the findings, IoT Barometer also plays a role as a guide of current occurrence worldwide in all sectors and where it heads to. Among 1,758 business respondents around the world, the 2019 IoT Barometer shows around 34% of businesses are utilizing IoT, 70% of these users have moved beyond pilot stage and around 95% of them are getting the benefits of investment IoT sectors as it has become more common.
Peter Malebye, Managing Executive for Vodacom Business IoT commented on the result of IoT Barometer 2019. He remarked, “IoT is central to business success in an increasingly digitized world, with 72 percent of adopters saying digital transformation is impossible without it.”
He furthermore said, “The good news is that IoT enablement platforms make the technology easier to deploy for businesses of all sizes and connectivity options like NB-IoT and 5G will make implantation easier and improve services. In this climate, companies need to be considering not if but rather how they will implement IoT, and they must also be fully committed to the technology to capitalize on the positive value/outcomes enabled by IoT.”
The Barometer has also found that IoT brings impacts on many sectors and the size of businesses. Around 60% of IoT adopters agree that it has disrupted their industry or will do so within the next five years. Moreover, 60% of adopters has grown their confidence in IoT and 83% increasing the number of deployment to fully take advantage of it.
The main highlights of the IoT Barometer 2019 are:
- Seventy percent of IoT adopters believe that digital transformation needs IoT and would be impossible without it
- Sixty percent of businesses that utilize IoT agree that it has disrupted their industry or will do so within the next five year
- Over thirty-four percent (one-third) of businesses are adopting IoT and seventy percent of the adopters have moved beyond the pilot stage
- Ninety percent of the IoT users are getting the advantages of their investment in IoT technology as it has become very common, around 53% of the adopters say it reduces operating costs
- Eighty-four percent of the adopters have grown their confidence in IoT and eighty-three percent has increased the scale of IoT deployment
- Seventy-four percent of businesses that adopt IoT agree that non-adopters will have left behind rivals within five years.
