TechInAfrica – Vodacom in partnership with MasterCard has launched VodaPay Masterpass app, enabling Vodacom’s customers to load any type of bank cards into digital wallet securely. With this new app, customers will be able to do immediate transactions efficiently once their card is loaded.

The app allows customers to purchase prepaid data, airtime, SMS, or voice bundles through the app. Moreover, they can also settle their DStv account, pay utility bills, or manage a traffic fine by clicking the “pay bills” button on the app.

The app’s “Scan to Pay” feature enables customers to scan a quick response (QR) code to pay for goods and services where Masterpass is accepted. Once it is scanned, users select the card they want to use, then input their bank PIN number on their device to complete the transaction.

Mariam Cassim, Chief Officer Vodacom Financial Services, said: “As digital wallets gain popularity, we realize the need to offer our customers solutions that will enable them to adapt to the future of commerce. With so many of our customers now using smartphones, it makes sense to make it easier for them to pay for airtime and data, and conduct a wide range of payments at their favorite merchants – all from a single app. We’ll be adding even more features to the platform in the coming months,” says Cassim.

We are excited to partner with Vodacom to make mobile digital payments a reality for most South Africans while furthering our strategy to displace cash.”

For South Africans who want to download the VodaPay Masterpass, it is available both on the Apple App store and the Google Play Store. All transactions made on the app are not charged (free).
