TechInAfrica — Vodacom announced its partnership with an international advocacy organization, Global Citizen. The partnership focuses on engaging its customers with the social issues that have affected Africa recently. It is an initiative to drive active participation in projects aimed to encourage South Africans to ‘carry on the legacy of the late Nelson Mandela’.
Vodacom will zero-rate the Global Citizen app as well as website for its customers for the duration of the partnership. It is to ensure that South African citizens have the opportunity to participate in being a change agent through the digital social actions.
The Managing Executive for Brand and Comms of Vodacom, Abey Mokgwatsane comments: “Our approach in making a social impact has seen us work together with civil society, government, as well as mobilizing our staff volunteers to do what we can to bring meaningful and relevant content, support, and training to those who need most,” Mokgwatsane continues, “We have been in search of ways to engage our customers, who we know are doing what they can to bring about change. This will be a first-of-its-kind initiative for Vodacom, a movement that will see our collective force of 43.1 million subscribers driving change and making a difference in some key areas of delivery in South Africa”.
The Global Citizen’s Mandela 100 campaign will culminate with the Festival in December. It gives an opportunity to Vodacom to ensuring its customer to support life-changing causes that the mobile network provider has been working passionately on, with the increased focus on education and gender empowerment.
The Global Citizen App enables Vodacom customers to pledge their support by joining in the campaign actions which are announced onwards starting from August 21, 2018. Vodacom is certain that the app will tap into the industry’s proven ability to work towards addressing society’s social diseases.
