The Digital Economic unit of the Western Cape Government has kickstarted the region’s first programme aimed at strengthening the local tech ecosystem. This initiative within the Department of Economic Development and Tourism is referred to as the DashTech programme. The idea is to support the region’s tech ecosystem by optimizing local tech startups by creating jobs in the digital economy.
In a tweet shared out during the launch, David Maynier expressed his intention to set Cape Town as ‘Africa’s Tech Capital.’ The DashTech programme supports the region’s tech ecosystem by fostering growth among local tech startups while creating jobs throughout Western Cape’s digital economy.
The DashTech programme
The first series of events began in November as part of the annual ‘tech month.’ Part of the programme involved events where startups could connect with potential investors, get new ideas, collaborate, develop new products, and improve local product development. Through this innovative approach, DashTech aims to fill in the existing gaps in funding while working alongside accelerators and incubators.
