TechInAfrica – The online marketplace Kawiwi was born from the former banker and Zambian Edwin Ngwane observation on clients difficulty in finding consultant with best practice, and vice versa for the consultants.

With just $25,000 taken from his own loan, Ngwane started his journey on building the platform last year, which is a marketplace to access a list of credible and verified  freelancers, consultants and service providers.

Ngwane shared that only verified consultants can go aboard the platform, and that his biggest struggle was financing the project.

“The biggest challenge in my entrepreneurship journey has been financing. Almost every project I have worked on has been self-financed. And this is not easy.”

“In Africa, we do not have many banks or financiers for startups and this tends to be a challenge for most upcoming entrepreneurs.”

“I remember getting a personal loan of about $25,000 from the bank for personal use and ended up diverting the funds to build Kawiwi. And this put a financial strain on my life, but I really didn’t care until I finished paying off the loan and I think it was worth it.”

Ngwane believes that Kawiwi will help giving an alternative to employment and change the narrative about what the job is all about. “Many African youths will use Kawiwi to offer their expertise and services and it will create employment for many youths.”
